take a screenshot on Mac

Shift + CMD + 3 = full screen capture

Shift + CMD + 4 = capture selected area

Shift + CMD + 4 then press and release spacebar = cursor turns to camera, click on window you want to capture.

Shift + CMD + 5 - capture using screenshot app. (This can also do screen recordings.)

I have put the screenshot app in the menu bar from Control Centre (which is accessed from the icon on top right corner.)

By default, screenshots save to the desktop with the name Screen Shot [date] at [time].
